We encourage students to participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. This is a program that allows students to practice their reading skills. Students read a book and take an online quiz. Each quiz allows them to earn points that go toward their individual 9 week goal. To reach their nine week goal, students must obtain their individual points goal, AND have an 85-100% average on comprehension.
Not all of our books are AR, therefore students in second grade and up are allowed to choose one free choice book each time they visit the library. This may include a magazine, a "non-AR" book, or something outside of their reading level.
In our library, AR books have spine labels indicating the reading level of the book.
They are color coded as follows:
Blue Dot-Below first grade
Light Blue-First Grade
Red- Second Grade
Green-Third Grade
Brown- Fourth Grade
Yellow- 5th Grade
Pink- 6th Grade
